Aelbert Cuyp was a Dutch Golden Age painter who is famous for his atmospheric landscape paintings. He received his artistic training from his father Jacob Gerritsz Cuyp, who was also a painter. He painted idyllic river landscapes, wide panoramas and rural scenes in which animals such as cows and sheep often play a central role. He often used a warm, golden color palette.
