Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese ukiyo-e painter and woodblock print artist who is one of Japan's most famous and influential artists. He is best known for his series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji , which includes one of the most iconic images in art history: The Great Wave off Kanagawa . His works inspired European Japonism in the 19th century, a movement that influenced many Western artistic greats.
